If you have been watching the news these last few weeks you have seen the mud slides in California and the heavy snow up to two feet all across the Southern and Eastern United States. When these storms happen they always take out power lines leaving on the average 50,000 people with out power on any given day. 
With most of the Power Grid of the United States beings quite old and is ready for a major power outage through out the whole country are you able to keep the lights on? With some sort of Passive Power like Solar and Wind you will have some lighting without going to the filling station for gas that they can’t pump. You will also be able to keep your fridge and frezer operating.

When Disaster Strikes
The Northern Arizona Navajo Nation was hit by an unusual large snow storm with the State of Arizona, President of the United States, and the Navajo Nation all declaring a state of emergency. It was still a week later before they sent for snowmobiles to help with their rescue. These Indians who lived in remote places were cutting down power poles, tearing trim and porches off their homes for heat. There were a lot of them who were running out of basic food supplies. With knowledge that at any given time in the United States there is 5,000 People with out power, you can start preparing with Books and Information like the one pictured.
The Navajo family I helped was use to living with out power an were willing to snow shoe five miles one way to feed their livestock. Are you ready to survive in a time of an Emergency or are you just going to let your Government save you when they can get organized?

The Art Of Cooking On A Wood Stove
In the home that I just moved into we have a wood stove with a flat top to heat and cook on, we just moved back a hundred years in time. For those of you that just know how to boil water Emergency Food Supplies will be great because most of the food is add water heat and eat like this 275 meal bucket.
For those of us that know what a real baked potato taste like. We just wrap them in tin foil and bake them inside the stove for supper or home fries the next morning. Yes we still have an electric cook stove my wife just likes to brag to me that she can cook a great meal with the wood stove.

Flagstaff Arizona along with Northern Arizona had up to 5 ft of snow this weekend along with this snow they had warm enough weather to cause rain and flooding through out Arizona. This closed roads and stopped resque missions from reaching people quickly, what would happen to you if this was your family? Light In The Night
I arrived home in the dark last knight and where I live their are no street lights and I hadn’t left my porch light on. This is no problem I just reached into the glove box and brought my trusty Headlamp which was still on from the last time I used it.
This could of been a complet black out if this was with a regular flash light. With the LED head lamp I still had enough light to see my keys and the door lock to get into my house. I don’t know how long this head lamp was on but at least a week.
