There’s no telling when disaster can strike; it’s often a scary moment, but the most important thing to do is remain calm. Here are a few disaster preparedness tips that will help you and your loved ones avert a potential crisis:

~Have a Meeting Point – often when disaster strikes it’s easy to get separated; it’s important to have an accessible meeting point where you and your loved ones can regroup.

~Have an Emergency Kit – stock your emergency kit with food, water, solar blankets, ponchos, emergency medical supplies, and a radio.

~Have a Plan – have a plan for evacuating your home, or know the plan for other locations you visit often (work, gym, club).

In the home that I just moved into we have a wood stove with a flat top to heat and cook on, we just moved back a hundred years in time. For those of you that just know how to boil water Emergency Food Supplies will be great because most of the food is add water heat  and eat like this 275 meal bucket.31Pe+0tPZXL__SL210_

For those of us that know what a real baked potato taste like.  We just wrap them in tin foil and bake them inside the stove for supper or home fries the next morning.  We also cook almost anything you would want like stews, beans, roasts that just taste great from our Cast Iron Pot.  Yes we still have an electric cook stove my wife just likes to brag to me that she can cook a great meal with the wood stove.

Innovations of LED Flashlights

led headlampsMore than a decade ago, LEDs (light emitting diodes) were not commonplace in flashlights, but as technology advanced, LED flashlights are now some of the most common.  The standard LED flashlight has significant advantages over the standard bulb flashlights.  For example, an LED flashlight puts out a significant amount more light.  The LED appears more luminous, and can brighten up a space like no standard bulb flashlight can.  In addition, LED flashlights don’t generate as much heat, last longer, and are more resistant to trauma and damage than a standard flashlight bulb. LED flashlights are ideal for camping, backpacking, law enforcement, power outages, and even professionals like plumbers and electricians.

These days there’s little reason to carry a standard bulb flashlight with LEDs available on the market.  In the future, standard flashlights will no longer exist and will be thought of as antiques more than tools.  Because the technology has now existed for awhile LED flashlights are also quite affordable, and you can even find LED headlamps.

Light In The Night

I arrived home in the dark last knight and where I live their are no street lights and I hadn’t left my porch light on.  This is no problem I just reached into the glove box and brought my trusty  Headlamp which was still on from the last time I used it.41iX0s3CyaL__SL210_

This could of been a complet black out if  this was with a regular flash light.  With the LED head lamp I still had enough light to see my keys and the door lock to get into my house.  I don’t know how long this head lamp was on but at least a week.

When you set up your Emergency Kit you will probably find out without the right information about your kits or supplies on how to maintain and use them they will be of less use for you.

Books Like this one will let you know how to use and store  things like flash lights how often to change and check batteries.  First aid supplies what to keep and what goes out of date.  If you have large containers of food should   you have oxygen grabing  packages to keep the food fresher when you open the can.

Happy New Year

To day is the day that a lot of people make new years resolutions maybe you should make yours about buying emergency sulpplies balk food.mountain-house-1-year-supply

By starting now you will help your self offset the rapidly increasing cost of food.  I also just found out the our Government has just increased the tax on tires and that this will increase the price of tires to as much as double in the next few months because of this 17% increase in taxes.

When you consider buying bulk goods you should look into paper goods like toilet paper because these items are the first to go when there is a  run on the stores.

Have a great New Year.
