When I went to the Navajo Indian Reversation they had wood stoves to cook on where a lot of the people back East have no Emergency heat or Cooking source. With some planning ahead they could have an alternate cooking stove or Emergency Food Supplies containing Self-Heating Meals.

Self Heating meals like the one above can be of a great benefit for those of you who don’t want to go out during a storm they will provide you with a hot taste meal in a time of stress.  I suggest that in the winter or storm seasons that we all look ahead for a disaster at any time.

Emergency Kits

While I was in Arizona helping the Navajo Indian Nation I proved that being prepared will save you a lot of time and work.  I took with me shovels, air compressor and a automobile Emergency kit51sMxAR1XJL__SL125_ The first thing that I needed was the air compressor to inflate the tire on the trailer because no filling stations have compressed air anymore.  Then while I was going into the Indians home site, I was going up a hill pulling a trailer around a corner that was made for a single truck.  This left me sideways in the road and had to be pulled out with the strap in my kit.  The next place was in a frozen snowed in mud hole that we had to dig out of and pulled out once more.  I have had this kit for more than 4 years and never used it before but it would of been of no use If  I hadn’t had it with me.

There’s no telling when disaster can strike; it’s often a scary moment, but the most important thing to do is remain calm. Here are a few disaster preparedness tips that will help you and your loved ones avert a potential crisis:

~Have a Meeting Point – often when disaster strikes it’s easy to get separated; it’s important to have an accessible meeting point where you and your loved ones can regroup.

~Have an Emergency Kit – stock your emergency kit with food, water, solar blankets, ponchos, emergency medical supplies, and a radio.

~Have a Plan – have a plan for evacuating your home, or know the plan for other locations you visit often (work, gym, club).

To day is the day that a lot of people make new years resolutions maybe you should make yours about buying emergency sulpplies balk food.mountain-house-1-year-supply

By starting now you will help your self offset the rapidly increasing cost of food.  I also just found out the our Government has just increased the tax on tires and that this will increase the price of tires to as much as double in the next few months because of this 17% increase in taxes.

When you consider buying bulk goods you should look into paper goods like toilet paper because these items are the first to go when there is a  run on the stores.

Have a great New Year.

Generators For Home Use

Generators for use in the home.  When selecting a generator for use in your home you need to consider your type of usage.  You may also consider the backup of  Wind Energy  for continuous power as part of your system.  If  you are looking at short outages you can use a smaller generator to keep a few lights on and the refrig running.  For those of you that have water pumps you will need a generator that will produce 208 single phase power.generator

I Don’t recommend trying to power your house, with out having an isolation switch for the generator. Other wise when the power comes on you will lose your generator or shock someone who is trying to restore your power.  With out this switch you will also try to power your neighbor hood.  The best and safest is for you to run extension cords to each applliance until the power comes on.

Food For Any Emergency

Emergency Food SuppliesGetting lost in the wilderness can be a nightmare. Especially if you’re lost overnight or even for a few days. First of all, what do you eat? If you’re lucky you will have some sort of fresh water supply like a stream or a pond nearby. And, most people know that many berries and plants are edible. But what about in the desert, where there’s no water and scant food?

Water isn’t easily found in the desert and because of this those who get lost should ration sweat, not water. Staying in the shade and limiting activity to cooler times, such as nights can greatly increase a person’s chance for survival. As far a food goes; seeds, cattail shoots and the rare small animal may be your only options. Bringing ie emergency food supples on a trek through the desert or wilderness should be a top priority. Some examples of what you may bring include; bouillon cubes, trail mix and dried fruit. These items are full of calories and take little space to pack.

Long-term Wilderness Survival

Considering the hectic pace of modern life, it’s nice to have a place of retreat – either a cottage or a permanent residence – where you can get away from the hustle and bustle. Living in commune with the wild animals and stunning flora that populate America’s vast wilderness can be both exhilarating and life-affirming. Still, living far away from civilization requires thorough preparation.

In adverse weather conditions, roads occasionally become impassable. When this happens, it really pays to have a reliable source of food. You can rely partially on your own hunting and fishing prowess, but make sure to have a stockpile of emergency food supplies at hand in case the going gets especially rough. Don’t let your pride and sense of rugged individualism get in the way of wise planning.
